Business Valuation Services
McLean, Koehler, Sparks & Hammond is committed to understanding the concerns and needs of our clients. When this involves assessing the value of your business, assisting you in evaluating the reasonableness of a purchase or sale offer, or providing an independent view of valuation disputes, turn to MKS&H for our proficiency, objectivity and reliability.

While many 'consultants' or 'experts' will tell you what you want to hear, at MKS&H, we are committed to telling you what you need to know to make an informed, managed decision.

Why should you get a business valuation?

The owner's main goal is to develop and increase the value of the business. An accurate business valuation provides management with a clear understanding of the business's strengths and weaknesses that affect value, allowing them to focus appropriate attention and resources to specific areas to increase value.

A regular business valuation, prepared by independent professionals, helps owners accurately assess overall business success and management effectiveness. Many owners believe that their business' value is determined solely by their net profit or gross sales. However, using only one aspect of the business' financial operation such as these as a basis for value only results in an incomplete understanding of how neutral parties or potential buyers may view the value of the business. An inaccurate business value assessment can lead to detrimental consequences, including the inability to obtain fair value for your business or even the failure to accept a reasonable offer due to an unrealistic expectation of value.

Business valuations are most commonly needed to calculate estate tax upon death, allocate family assets in a divorce, and negotiate value in a purchase, sale or merger of a business enterprise. Other common reasons include adequacy of life insurance, buy/sell agreements, bankruptcy and foreclosures. In all these cases, you need solid information to assist in your decision making process.

We provide business valuations and related consulting for the following purposes:

  • Compensating damage claims
  • Divorce settlements and litigation
  • Employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs)
  • Bankruptcy or foreclosures
  • Shareholder and partner disputes
  • Estate, gift, and tax planning
  • S-corp conversions
